Serve Like Jesus
This event has a very deep meaning. Jesus showed us His humble heart and never-ending love. He prepared His disciples to make the final sacrifice and appointed them priests of the New Testament. He followed the command described in the Old Testament, these symbolically express the spiritual purity of the priests offering sacrifices to God and the readiness to serve God. He referred directly of His martyrdom that would come at the hands of His people. He has acknowledged that the end of preparations has come and they are ready to follow His way of proclaiming the one Truth which He Himself is.
’’12 So after he had washed their feet, and had taken his garments, and was set down again, he said unto them, Know ye what I have done to you? 13 Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for so I am. 14 If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another’s feet. 15 For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you. 16 Verily, verily, I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him. 17 If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them.’’
John 13,12-17
He showed us a path full of humility and thanksgiving, filled with God’s grace, full of understanding our worth in Jesus Christ through his death on the cross.
“9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light; 10 Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.”
1 Peter 2, 9-10
So we must follow the example of Jesus Christ, who was the royal priesthood, serving others and proclaiming Jesus’ second coming in His glory.
